Modifying travel practices necessarily requires strong awareness of the population. This awareness should be bolstered by the media, one of the major communications vehicles. This website provides information on the issue of travel in tourist mountain areas. In it you will find a presentation of the project itself, the programme it comes under, French and European partners (4 countries, 14 partners), the zones in question (in France for example the Rhône-Alpes Region and Isère, Vercors and Oisans in particular). (see the presentation page) The context of this project is based on the growth in the number of cars, enhanced dependency on this type of travel and the modification in leisure practices. (see the context page) The objective of this project is mainly to reduce the proportion of cars used in the mountains by increasing other modes (in particular public transport and, case by case, cycling and walking). Protection of nature and the living environment, the reduction of greenhouse gases and improved health and safety are the major motivations behind the project. (see the objectives page) Each partner country of the “Alpine Awareness” project (France, Germany, Austria, Italy) has its own variants. Over and above specific results in each country, the project aims at: -making young people aware of the issue, -setting up training on non-polluting travel for companies, -informing the population. (see the results page) In France in particular, specific events have been organised in classes and Travel Plans have been set up for 4 schools and 4 companies (Choranche cave, ski lifts, resort). In Europe, the project has shown that, in reality, there already are several cases of non-polluting travel (best practices were presented). (see the exemplary cases page) Finally, spaces specially dedicated to young people (forum, webcam) but also adults (forum) are featured on the website. |
